Michigan: Rebuilding Through Tree Planting Initiatives
In partnership with the Department of Natural Resources, 50 apple trees were planted, with protective measures in place to safeguard them from wildlife, ensuring future harvests.
Additionally, the Michigan Team collaborated with Portage Parks and Recreation’s
“Leaf-A-Legacy: Tree Planting Program”, planting 36 trees as part of a larger effort to restore the local ecosystem. This program aims to plant 400 trees over the next two years throughout Portage Parks.
On May 7, 2024, a tornado tore through Portage, destroying thousands of trees and causing severe damage—especially to the Celery Flats Historical Area and the Portage Creek Bicentennial Park Trail. In response, native tree species will be strategically planted over the next two years to restore the region’s natural beauty and resilience.
